As you can see, we are not in California, and are in rural New Mexico of all places. That's because our Ford diesel truck decided to start spitting all of it's coolant out of the exhaust. It's not a super duper huge deal, and it's at a shop getting fixed right now. Should be in California on Thursday, about 3 days after we had planned on getting there. Other than that, the trip has been pretty good and uneventful.

The time has finally come for us to transport "Warrior's Wish" across the country, to San Francisco, to begin really preparing for the Singlehanded Transpac. All things considered, the first two months of this project have been great. I've accomplished exactly what I wanted to; come to North Carolina, prep the boat for the race, learn a ton about boat work, and get ready to go to California. My time here was fun, I really enjoy working on the boat, and i'm ecstatic with how much i've learned, but I am more than ready to get back to the West Coast and begin sailing again! Things are definitely progressing, and racing the SHTP is becoming more and more of a reality every single day, so all in all, i'm really excited right now.

The boat is finally starting to look like a boat again; it's got a rudder. All of the steering stuff is hooked back up, the bilge is painted, our new dodger is on, some more sponsors have come on board, we've made arrangements to launch and store the boat, and we *should* be leaving for California next week. Things are really starting to come together...

It's a New Year! Boat work is coming along nicely, and i'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel; in about two weeks, "Warrior's Wish" should be en route to California, so that I can begin training and preparing for this year's Singlehanded Transpac. The race is no longer "next" year, it's in just five and a half months! We're kicking things into high gear from this point out...
After typing the last blog, I prepared to head home to Georgia for the holidays. On the day that I was planning to leave, we got pounded by a quick snowstorm. With temperatures well below freezing, snow began falling and quickly covered the ground with a few inches of snow. It was literally the first time i've seen snow fall since I was in Iraq in 2004. (Yes, it snows there.) The roads were a mess, but I managed to get to the train station and make it home for the holidays.

Christmas is right around the corner, and in less than a month i'll be back in California with the race boat. I've been working on the boat every day, as well as trying to line up sponsors and preparing to head west. The boat work is going pretty well, if not a bit slowly; the weather has been holding us back a bit. Cold and wet. Can't believe it's been a month since i've sailed. :( |

Thanksgiving has come and gone, while we are still making progress on the boat. Ran some wires up the mast, did some deck prep and began to roll on some new non-skid. We have begun fairing the keel, doing some work to the core inside the boat, re-painting and finishing the bow, and doing some small work to the bottom of the boat. We are also in the early design stages of a sweet new carbon fiber dodger. |

Still working on the boat. We've begun making some needed repairs to the stringers inside the boat, as well as making a pretty big repair to the bow and many small repairs to the deck. I sanded most of the paint off the rudder today so that I can begin prepping it for it's re-install. Sorting out a wiring issue right now and going through all of the safety gear. Thanksgiving is in 2 days, and i'll be with my sister and her family. Good stuff. |
