Another good day today. 116 km covered (about 72 miles). I saw a lot of new stuff and am continuing to learn a lot. At the rate that I am going, I should be inside Vietnam in a week or so. I'm having fun, though, and not having any problems yet, so i'm quite pleased.

I'm typing this from a "wangba", which is internet cafe in mandarin. I learned the Chinese symbol for internet, so now I manage to find wangba's periodically. Imagine a 3-sided box, with an open bottom. Then put two xx's inside of it. This is the Chinese symbol for "net". Pretty interesting I thougt. Pretty cool day today. I had fun. Didn't cover too terribly much distance (didn't really try to), but I made it to Kaiping, which was my goal for the day.

Today was not the most productive day ever, but i really can't complain. I am in China, I got a room for the night, and i'm about to eat some food, so life is okay for me right now. Today kind of had it all; emotion, frustration, inner turmoil, and its own little successes as well. Even without covering any distance at all, I am still exhausted. I simply could not sleep last night. Too much going through my head, I suppose.

If you're reading this, then HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! This will be my final writing from Hong Kong. I just got home from a very low-key and calm, yet very pleasant New Year's celebration, and plan to leave at 9 AM local time. This is the beginning of a whole new adventure... |
*Very long entry* I am back in Hong Kong with my bike. It was exciting, to say the least. In two days I received five, yes, five police escorts, witnessed a moped accident, rode in the back of one Police van, got stopped by Chinese immigration at the border, said a pretty emotional good bye to a very special friend, broke one laptop computer screen, cycled 225 km in 2 days, and ate one more meal full of bones from an as of yet unknown source. |
*This is a long entry, as a lot has happened in the past few days.* So in the last week I managed to ride a bicycle to Guangzhou, hang out there for a few days, meet someone extraordinarily special, learn how to play rugby, travel to Hong Kong by train, help win another sailboat race and championship, and learn more about life. |
Shortly after typing that last blog entry, I left the internet place and hit the road again. I looked up where Stewart's place was, while online, and figured out that he was ALL THE WAY on the other side of Guangzhou. 40 some odd kilometers later, I am at a Starbucks very, very close to his place. I just called him on Skype, and he is going to come meet me and take me back to his place. |
